TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

PREVENTION & DIVERSION

We strive to be proactive rather than reactive, when a family contacting us is facing the threat of eviction. Our goal is to work to avoid the mental trauma of a family with children losing their housing and becoming displaced. As our funds allow, our teams work to provide this through:

  • Personalized Case management
  • Community Resources and Support
  • Crisis Financial Assistance & Utility support
  • Housing location and Landlord mediation
  • Transportation – bus passes, gas cards, and car donations
  • Technical Assistance and Navigational Support

There are alternatives to traditional shelters...Not only does keeping families out of congregated shelters increase their likelihood of rapid recovery from homelessness, but it is also a sound practice to keep the family intact with minimal disturbances to their children’s routine while the head of household receives supportive services to get back on their feet. When families have lost housing and reach out to A Grateful Mind, our Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides alternatives to congregate shelters as we work to locate housing for a family and continue to mentor them throughout their tenancy.

TRANSITIONAL SHELTER

A Grateful Mind uses a holistic approach to transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness to ensure the appropriate fit for a family’s dynamic. Our community of partner affiliates help us coordiate:

  • Scatter Site Shelters – families stay overnight at different Community Host & Family Host sites as we work to locate permanent housing for the program participant to transition to with robust supportive services.
  • Straightway Shelters – families stay overnight at the same host location until we locate permanent housing for the program participant to transition into with robust supportive services.
  • Temporary STR Stays
  • Temporary Motel stays

We endeavor to keep families with children intact and safe during transitional periods. As a collective with our partner affiliates each year, we mobilize thousands of dedicated volunteers to offer hospitality, resources and skills training to our participant families under a trauma-informed umbrella.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY & STABILIZATION TRACK

Our Educational Resources Programs build resiliency - while a family is/or has become housed our learning modules help families maintain long term residency within communities and steer towards career paths to stabilize incomes. Examples of our educational resource components include:

  • 2nd Chance Adult Scholarships
  • Financial Literacy Training
  • Career Skills Training
  • Tenancy Education
  • Technical Assistance Support

In addition to the many initiatives and programs available when families reach out to us in crisis, we organize provisions to access:
